Which area to protect with SSL

I have enabled SSL on my site but after I login, when a go to a category page, I found myself on a unsecured page. Is it normal? Do SSL protect only some area of my site or is it supposed to protect all of it after a customer login.

Zen Cart is smart, it only uses SSL where it is needed, for login, My Account and during checkout.

I have set up and SSL on my site and i know it ios working as when i use https my site opens no problem.

The problem is that when i set up an account or go to a payment area my site is not automatically taken to https, what page and code do i need to change within my template area to make this happen.

If you have changed both configure files to reflect SSL cert is present, then no other files need to be changed..
