Can't change font from white to black

Hi guys,

I'm having trouble changing the color of some text, which is white, within my site. The text whose color I'd like to change is the "Item Name" in the shopping cart and the terms and conditions text that is displayed during the checkout process. Since these pieces of text are white and the background is white, the text appears invisible.

Please see these 2 images that I've posted. The highlighted text is invisible when not highlighted (as it is white on white)

http://img710.imageshack.us/g/page1fg.jpg/

I've tried fooling around with the css file to change the color of this particular text with no success. I even tried changing every piece of code that read "color ffffff" to "color 000000." Even this didn't change the color of the font, which means that this color is not being controlled by the css file.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for your help everyone!

Re: Can't change font from white to black

The way this works best is when you post a link to your site so we can take a look with Web Developer or Firebug to see what's going on. Providing screen shots doesn't help a lot of the time, since, while we can look at that page on our own sites and maybe figure out the issue, you may have installed a template or edited a template file that would make our advice wrong.

it is hard without a link to your site.

regarding your comment above; not necessarily.

you may simply be changing the css for a tag that is not controlling the colour. if you've customised the tags used in the file tpl_shopping_cart_default.php, then i probably can't help.

if not however, the following is the heirarchy of tags you should investigate in your css file for the offending colour...

cartContentsDisplay
rowOdd
rowEven
cartProductDisplay
td
a
a:visited
cartProdTitle

...or any (obvious) combination of the above. e.g.

cartProductDisplay a {
}

as the 'a' tag is one of the last ones used, my bet is that this is your culprit. pity we don't have a url otherwise we'd be able to see for ourselves?

Re: Can't change font from white to black

Thanks for your help guys. I'm planning on putting the site up online very soon. It's not quite finished yet, therefore I don't want potential customers seeing the site in an unfinished state and being turned off. I'll let you know as soon as I go live. In the mean time, I'll use your suggestions to try to fix the problem.

I haven't modified any of the tags in the tpl_shopping_cart_default.php file.

Thanks again for all of the help! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it!

Re: Can't change font from white to black

Hey guys,

It seems like this is crazy. I've change **every **color code in the css stylesheet file to #000000 (even background colors) and the result is my entire page is essentially black. Take a guess at what is still in white? That's right-- the "Item Name" and the Terms and Conditions text. In other words, I still haven't been able to solve any of my original problems by changing the color code of everything in the css file.

Is it possible that the font is being controlled by something else? What could it be?

Thanks again

Re: Can't change font from white to black

Ok, so I was able to change the font of the terms of service text to black by getting rid of some span tags in checkout_payment.php.

Now, I'm just looking for where the formatting of the item name is controlled...

Thanks

Re: Can't change font from white to black

are you certain you're only loading one stylesheet?

keywords in the filename of all files in the css directory dictate what is loaded, to be sure check this directory to ensure no extra tags are being defined elsewhere.

toehrwise i honestly can't think of anything else other than something hard coded, or something modified via javascript...

Re: Can't change font from white to black

You shouldn't have to edit PHP files to change a font.

One way you could let us see the problem would be to password-protect the site and post access info here.
