Templates for ZC?

I have googled zencart template and came up with several sites to get them from... this forum is huge so I am respectfully asking who has tried to use either free or bought templates to create the look of their zencart and which one(s) are recommended as a good resource for templates.

Thanks in advance

Re: Templates for ZC?

Exercise care when getting templates from "template sellers". While many of these do indeed have very attractive appearances, they are heavily customized. Some are so heavy with modified code, that they depart significantly from recognised structures within Zencart.

Inherently, there is nothing "wrong" with people designing and selling templates. Creating templates takes skill and time.

The problems occur when people buy the template, install it, then find things are not going to plan. Typically, heavily customised code can limit the addition of other modules, or restrict the procedures of modifying code to perform a popular function.

So their users come to this forum asking for help (naturally), but find that people are unable to help because in order to help, several hours may need to be spent "unweaving" all the customizations first.

Not many helpers have this sort of "luxury" of free time, so if you do go for a heavily customized commercial template, realize that you will be pretty much on your own.

Many of the free templates abide by the zencart schema sufficiently to be considered "standard" templates, and these are often very easy (relatively) to tweak and modify.

Caveat Emptor applies when buying a template...
