Is there a way to stop admin losing foreign characters (é is é) in descript'n?

Is there a way to edit or modify a product without entering the admin page? Maybe access a .php file via Notepad?

I need to do this because I am using foreign characters (ie.é is é) and when editing a product in admin, the special coding is not shown and deleted when saving.
