Manufacturer Sidebox

Does anyone know how to duplicate the manufacturer sidebox and its functions?

I need to add another sidebox with the same type of functionality, both in the storefront and in the admin - dropdown box with options loaded from a table in my dbase.

Can someone point in the right direction, please?

I did it once before.
You will need to double all files related to manufacturers files, everywhere, in modules, templates, languages. The same should be done in admin folder. Don’t forget to name them differently, let’s say “manufacturers-2”. You will need to alter the database to add extra “manufacturer-2” row in an appropriate tables.
It is tedious work. You need to check through bunch of files, copy and rename them, plus whenever you need to display “manufacture-2” you will need to input extra lines of code into those files. I am talking about search file, display product file and etc.
Sorry I can't tell which files to double, once again it’s a big job should be done with care.

I also need to do the same thing and was wondering, by doing this, would it also provide the manufacturer-2 column in easy populate or would I need to do some more work there as well?

If anyone has done this and could give more instructions, it would be greatly appreciated
