Trying to change the width of pages on computer screen...

I checked all of the results in the FAQ and they did not work on mine. My stylesheet main wrapper section was already set to 750px wide so I changed it to 100% and nothing changed on the screen. I then tried 900pix and still nothing changed. Looked at the other lines in the sytlesheet and nothing caught my eye that could also need to be changed. Thought I would finally ask for help from the masters in the forum. Any ideas????

By the way, my montior is 1440 x 900 here just so we all know I am not on an 800px monitor.

Re: Trying to change the width of pages on computer screen...

Are you editing includes/templates/classic/css/stylesheet.css?

Are your file permissions set properly?

You are using the classic template
You need to create your own template

Hello BenhamCollectibles,

When I check your stylesheet. I notice you have mainWrapper in both stylesheet.css and stylesheet_css_buttons.css.

mainWrapper in Stylesheet.css width:100% and mainWrapper in stylesheet_css_buttons.css width:750px.

Delete the mainWrapper from styleshee_css_buttons.css and see what happen.

Re: Trying to change the width of pages on computer screen...

Would that make a difference? I have "classic" and I have "template_default" to choose from and one of them has to control this action that I am trying to figure out or the store would not work. I changed both of them and neither did the job. I have also changed other stuff in this classic stylesheet and it has worked, leading me to believe that I wouldn't need a third stylesheet with only a different name.

You mentioned something about permissions, could you elaborate a little more on that if you feel it may have something to do with this problem?

Re: Trying to change the width of pages on computer screen...

WOW! Good Call Royal!

Any idea how to get my logo header to NOT double up now? I have it sized at 750 long and 75 high. I love the seamless stitching that the system used to combine the logo twice side by side, but I just want the "Benham Baseball Cards" up there once in the center no matter what size the screen is, but keep the blue background of my logo going all the way across the screen like it is now. Any ideas on this new issue?

Again, thanks to Royal for finding that extra function in the stylesheet_css_buttons file!!

Yep, I deleted the one in buttons and have the classic stylesheet.css at 100%. The page has now stretched to the sides of my monitor but the header logo has doubled up now as I mentioned below, Any ideas?

Re: Trying to change the width of pages on computer screen...

I just found this in the stylesheet:

#logoWrapper{
background-image: url(../images/header_bg.jpg);
background-repeat: repeat-x;
background-color: #ffffff;
height:75px;
}

I think the background-repeat has something to do with my image repeating. Is the a way to center it without repeating maybe? Or change the repeat-x to something else that will only allow the logo to show once? Just trying to throw things out there.

Re: Trying to change the width of pages on computer screen...

While we are looking into my first issue, I would like to see if anyone out there may know how to center my image at the top of my product listing pages. If you need to see this, go into my store with the link in my signature. Start in the "Categories" box on the left and follow this breadcrumb :

Baseball Cards>>1981>>1981 Donruss

Now there should be a fairly large scan of a 1981 Donruss Lenny Randle baseball card on your screen. This card is to the left above the products listing page and I would like to move it over slightly to the right, centering it above the products listing side of the page. Any ideas on this one?

Re: Trying to change the width of pages on computer screen...

Somewhat of a good call Glenn. It centered the logo and kept the blue background all the way across. But, it is also still repeating the name, just centered now. It actually doesn't look horrible, but I would still like to change it.

I just saw your new post about the image centering. I will try that now.

Re: Trying to change the width of pages on computer screen...

I suggest you use the Benham Baseball Cards image as your logo image, and put a slice of the gradient as a background-image for #logoWrapper. That is the only practical way to get one name with the blue stretching all the way across the screen.

Re: Trying to change the width of pages on computer screen...

Glenn, you are the man! The image is centered perfectly now and I have a decent looking logo until we find a better solution. Should I redo the image and make it longer than 750 pix in Photoshop real quick? Would that change anything? What would I make it 1440px long? 1000px? Let me know if you can and I will get it done.

I gotta go to bed now. My eyes are so watery, I can't read the screen anymore.

In a few minutes, we celebrate a day in which a Savior was born. I think the important part about Christmas somehow got lost in the translation over the last, oh, 2010 years. With all of those Black Friday sales and commercials, I can kinda see how people may be slightly mislead today. For those who don't know what I am talking about, the true meaning of Christmas is not being proud of yourself because you got up at 2am on Black Friday to get some discounted or limited item for someone so they can rip it open a month later. It is about a perfect gift given to us by the only person in which it would have had any meaning at all, Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ. Happy Birthday, Jesus, and thank you again for what you did for all of mankind. It is now midnight, Christmas Morning.

Re: Trying to change the width of pages on computer screen...

If you make the image 1440px wide, someone will look at it in a 1600px monitor... The best solution is to separate the one-time logo/text section and a repeating gradient section behind it (with the same vertical alignment so they blend seamlessly).

OK, see you in a couple of days or so!

Re: Trying to change the width of pages on computer screen...

Alright, this is all I could come up with for now. Can anyone suggest any changes to this that would make the blue strip behind "Benham Baseball Cards" stay at 100% across the screen where it is at now, but at the same time place "Benham Baseball Cards" in the center of that blue strip one time instead of repeating like it is right now?

#logoWrapper{
background-image: url(../images/tile_back3.gif);
background-image: url(../images/header_bg.jpg);
background-repeat: repeat-x;
background-position: center top;
background-color: #ffffff;
height:75px;
}

Could I do something like call the first image

    background1-image:

and the other

    background2-image:

and then change the repeat commands to

    background1-repeat: repeat-x;
    background2-repeat: no-repeat;???

Even if this isn't correct, you folks can kinda get the idea of what I am trying to say. I want the blue strip behind the logo to repeat and the words on it to NOT repeat. The #logowrapper function I pasted above makes both images repeat because I don't know how to tell the computer how to separate them.
