Trying to change the width of pages on computer screen...

I made a post yesterday and, when I got no responses, I figured everyone was enjoying the holiday with family, as they definitely should be. I am wondering if anyone may be on here today checking things out? Just make a post and I will see it in my email and jump back on here later to pick the brains of the masters of Zen Cart.

Here is a link to my site if this will help anyone that needs to see how things look.

Re: Trying to change the width of pages on computer screen...

In currently supported CSS, it is not possible to have more than one background-image assigned to one element. Assign the blue background to #ligoWrapper and the text to #logo:```
#logoWrapper{
background-image: url(../images/tile_back3.gif);
background-repeat: repeat-x;
background-position: center top;
background-color: #ffffff;
}
#logo{
background-image: url(../images/header_bg.jpg);
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-position: center top;
height:75px;
width: 750px;/or whatever/
}

or```
#logoWrapper{
background: #ffffff url(../images/tile_back3.gif) repeat-x center top;
}
#logo{
background: url(../images/header_bg.jpg) no-repeat center top;
height:75px;
width: 750px;/*or whatever*/
}

Re: Trying to change the width of pages on computer screen...

I hope everyone had great holidays and enjoyed a break from the normal routines of daily life. People who have jobs relating to computer programming certainly need a break here and there.

Glenn, I just tried the most recent script that you put below for me and, at first, it would not show at all. I added 75px to the tileback3 section and the blue background did appear alone. I changed my text part of the logo to a transparent background and it did not work. I am currently using your #logoWrapper code below with the 75 px added in (otherwise it showed nothing at all). I am hoping that people on here are not thinking that my logo is actually text, but it is indeed a jpeg image. Based on what has been stated in this thread, 2 images cannot occupy the same space on a page. I just tried to put a 1600px logo in there and that also did not work. I am gonna stick with the repeating logo until I randomly stumble upon, or someone else figures out, the way it should be. I have and will keep trying every idea that people suggest, as long as it has not been tried yet. Would other commands above in the css form be overruling the new commands that we are trying to put in? It isn't horrible right now so I am not crying over it. I am basically curious as to how it should go, so I know in a future situation. Thanks again for the help!!

Re: Trying to change the width of pages on computer screen...

It's not that two images cannot occupy the same space on a page; they cannot both be backgrounds for the same element. They can perfectly well be backgrounds for an element and another element contained in it, or foreground and background images for an element, or positioned with CSS to appear one on top of the other.

You appear to have eliminated the logo div, which should appear between logoWrapper and taglineWrapper. What happened there?

I think your best bet is to make header_bg.jpg the logo so it displays on top of the tiled background.

Re: Trying to change the width of pages on computer screen...

I have been trying to mess with this situation a lot on my own because there has been almost no response in this thread as to what to do other than your posts once a day. I figured that people are either getting bored with this subject or people don't know it is here. So I changed the logo back to the repeating one not thinking that you need to view the source page with your code in to know what is going on. That is my fault.

I copied what you put for me again and pasted it exactly as you wanted it into the file. No logo or background is showing up on my page. My store is live and I would like to have some kind of logo on the pages for people to see. That is why I changed it up yesterday. I will leave it like this for the rest of the day today and change it back to the repeating logo tomorrow morning.

There is no taglineWrapper div in my css file, so I put it above the tagline div assuming this is the same thing, being that there is nothing else with "tagline" in the file. Also, I was not aware that these new divs had to be put in a particular place in the file. I have always been told either to put whatever we are working on is at the bottom of the css file, or a position to put it was not mentioned previous to now.

Does the stylesheet_css_buttons affect everything in the css file? I am seeing some things change by altering the css file and other things not change until I alter or delete the same div in the buttons file. I know that adding the height: 75px and width: 100% will make the #logowrapper show up the way I had it last night and this morning before now. Other than that, I can't find any other way to make something show up on the page and I haven't been able to make the header_bg.jpg sit on top of the tileback3. It has always been one or the other. Let me know sometime today about any additional changes or we can go ahead and let this go and move on to something more important. I am getting burned out on this stupid logo of mine. It would be nice if it was just text and I could type it up there.

I have a good sized problem with getting my domain changed to benhambaseballcards.com instead of benhamcollectibles.com. I tried to change it once and destroyed the whole store. I had to call godaddy and have them help me fix what I did. I am not the computer whiz I would like to be.

Re: Trying to change the width of pages on computer screen...

Have you ever edited tpl_header.php? That is where the logo div was eliminated from. Altering #logo {...} in the stylesheet will only affect its appearance, not its existence in your page output.

See the tutorials for instructions on changing your logo image. Putting an image in that if there is not one may solve other problems.
Styling #logo when there is no <div id="logo"> will be useless, as you can't style something that doesn't exist.

Re: Trying to change the width of pages on computer screen...

WE DID IT!!! Mostly because of you, Glenn. I think my cosmetic alterations are done for the site. I am sure I will find other little stuff along the way, but I have gotten most of the important stuff done and I will probably not actively try to find any more for a while. It has been a long thread for those who have followed, but Glenn finally found the answers, again.

Thanks, Glenn!!!!
