Why aren't details sent to PayPal using Website Payments Standard?

Why aren't details sent to PayPal using Website Payments Standard?

I notice that when I set up a store with Website Payments Standard as a payment option and I pay with PayPal the contents of my shopping cart are not sent to PayPal, just the totals. Why is that?

As I understand it, with Paypal Standard, the order is completed on your site and then the customer is sent to Paypal to pay. Paypal then tells your Zencart installation that payment was made, and the order is saved. In that secenario, there's no real reason for the cart contents to be sent to Paypal, since all they care about is the final amount.
