Call for price questions

I checked call for price, but when a customer clicks on it, they don't get a phone number(Call), they get an email form, which is what I would prefer anyway(!), but that is not what it would imply(ie a phone number to my shop), but/and when someone fills out the form it sends a customer written message without any reference to the actual product in question. How do I correct that, so that at the very lease it gives tham a phone number and gives me an email that references the item#, or can I?

Re: Call for price questions

Thanks! That's exactly what I'm looking for. Why wasn't that included in the basic zen-cart download, especially since it's free anyway?

Re: Call for price questions

Can you please direct me for help with that ask_a_question module. I Installed it, or I think I did, and it's not working and I can't find options to find out what I did wrong. my site is branderalarm.net
If you click on the ask_a_question you get a blank page/block.

Visited site...mod is NOT installed correctly....there should be
an ask question button image showing..your site shows just text link...
There is comprehensive read me/instructions file in mod zip which if followed correctly, allows mod to work fine....

Re: Call for price questions

Understood. I read it. 20 times. But I have no idea where I screwed up! Where else could I turn for a little more help? The readme talks about assuming that my template is named custom. Where is the "custom" template kept? My templates should all be the default ones since the only thing I installed was ezpopulate

Go through instructions, step by step, again...make sure
all files for mod are sent to correct folders on your zencart install....
Without actually looking, via ftp, into your zencart site, there
is nothing else to suggest...

CUSTOM template means "name of template you have designed yourself"
Your site is currently using Classic template, so mod files
that are destined for custom template go into corresponding
Classic folder/s

Re: Call for price questions

I just look again at all the files and they are all there. Rereading the readme he talks about a custom template file. What is that?

"These directions and file paths all assume your template is named "custom.":

"If your template has another name, please change the directory name "custom"
to the name of your template in ALL places."

I don't know what he means by this. Drawing a big blank...

Then he say:
"No database changes are required. However, if you
installed the pre-1.3 version of ask_a_question, the
database entries from that version are no longer used.

The unused database entries can be seen by going into Admin,
and then into Configuration->E-Mail Options. You will see

Allow Guest To Ask A Product Question ...
Ask A Question Email To: ...
Ask A Question Name To ...

These entries may be deleted using the sql commands in cleanup.sql.
Remember to prefix the table name "configuration" with your prefix if
includes/configuration.php has DB_PREFIX set to something other
than ''. "

But I didn't have that/any version installed before - so not relevant.

Then he says:

"===========

Upload files.

===========

Move includes/templates/template_default/templates/tpl_product_info_display.php
to your own template directory, if it's not already there."

It was already there so I didn't have to move it. Then I uploaded the entire folder/file structure, file and folders, and they are all there.

See my last post...you dont have custom named template...
you are using Classic template
Move includes/templates/template_default/templates/tpl_product_info_display.php
to your own template directory, if it's not already there."
You place copy of that template into
/includes/templates/classic/templates/
folder

That was it! Phew! Thanks. As Kermit says: "It ain't easy being green!":frusty:

BTW, I moved the folders in question involved to my classic folder. The custom folder is now empty - sound correct?

That will be ok UNLESS you change from Classic template to any other, plus you should NOT move files or folders from template default ...
Pleased to hear mod now working ok for you..Well Done!!

Yes I moved the directory buttons from custom to classic and that seems to have fixed it. Why wouldn't/shouldn't I have that directory in BOTH custom AND classic, so that if I every(!)change my default template from classic to a nicer custom one, there would be no changes necessary then? ie: Should I COPY it back to where it was to future proof zencart in respect to ask_a_question? (I think I'm starting to understand this)

Re: Call for price questions

CUSTOM templates should be mirror image of classic or template default...
i.e you dont move template/s from either
default or classic, you COPY them to your own new template,
whatever it may be named/called.
Always keep folder/s/file/s structures intact

Re: Call for price questions

Understood. But since I already did move it before, which appears to have straightened out the problem, shouldn't I now COPY it back to where it was to future proof zencart in case I ever do get a custom template?
