Using actual stock as an attribute.....

I have a module installed that allows me to set a quantity number for an attribute (can't remember what it is called) Is there a way to use an actual stock item as an attribute for another stock item?

I like to use reports to check sales but they do not differentiate between Widget A with attribute 1 and Widget A with Attribute 2, it just groups all of the Widget A sales with no tracking for Attribute 1 and 2 other than if I go in and look a the remaining attribute 'stock' levels in the attribute controller section.

I want to be able to generate sales reports that will show me how many of each attribute / stock item combination has been sold for the given time period.

One would have to custom code a sales report to do this
