where to change the manufacturer link from...

http:// to https://

when I go to the manufacturers drop down menu or click on any manufacturers name in the pages there is a security message that pops up:

Although this page is encrypted, the information you have entered is to be sent over an unencrypted connection and could easily be read by a third party.

Are you sure you want to continue sending this information?

any http:// will give this error,

I tried removing the http:// from the configuration file in includes but this just caused IE8 to not behave [[unformated pages if loaded at all]]

You don't want your whole site secured. It just slows things down and will create errors like the one you're experiencing.

Set up your configure.php files as described here

https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=14

and your problem should go away.

Re: where to change the manufacturer link from...

well I have it set up like this:
// Define the webserver and path parameters
define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://www.YOUR_SHOP.com');
define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://www.YOUR_SHOP.com');
define('ENABLE_SSL', 'true');

since it is my own VPS server and I am not sure what a shared ssl is...does it mean someone else has access to it?

for our admin section I have all instances as https:// per the config instructions.

now i do have our other forums on this server too is that what you mean by shared? I should use the shared one to make it go to the store only?

The link you provided started with https, so I assumed you had secured the whole site, but you haven't. Visitors coming to your site will land at http://www. etc, and that error won't appear when the Manufacturers are selected.

actually , yes I did. the admin section is and so is the store part supposed to be, there is even a redirect that sends the http user to https.

IE8 has been a bear and that is why I had to go and make all the links into https for the images throughout the store. Then in the config file for the main includes folder I had to add http there also and now I get that security thing.

that is why I wanted to find where the change could be found so I can set the links to https for the categories and vendors.

or if I should use the shared https directions for the config file for what is the sense in having a SSL and having the url to say https if I can't use it without the security thing popping up or IE8 having a fit.

Re: where to change the manufacturer link from...

When I enter your URL without the 's', I am not redirected to a secure page. That's good. It's best, I think, to set up your configure files the way the tutorial recommends, and let Zencart decide what pages need to be secured. There's no reason to secure the main page, product pages, etc. and doing so can cause problems, as you've discovered.

Re: where to change the manufacturer link from...

thing is it was working fine until this one member tried with IE8 and that one just caused loads of problems...lol then even IE6 and 7 joined in followed by my own Firefox...on both mac and pc...lol

I will take off the redirects then too. Thanks
