Possible to automatically activate a discount coupon?

Hi guys.

I wonder whether if it's possible to automatically activate a discount coupon if a customer is referred from another site? We need this because we are going to cooperate with a site that gives discounts on different pages to students.

If it don't make any sense, please tell me and I will try to describe better.

Give a few examples to help explain what you mean by "automatically" activating a Discount Coupon when referred from another site ...

How do you "know" that they are referred from "another site"?

Do these Discount Coupons exist already ... as in are they "predefined"?

Is the Discount Coupon redemption code "unique" per customer? per coupon?

Really break it down and pretend we know nothing about what you are talking about ... and type really, really slow ... :cool:

The discount coupons exist already, and the same discount coupon shall be used for all customers.

We want some how to have a script on the other site, that automatically activates the coupon when people click the link.

Please ask if more details is needed. I really appreciate your help!

Okay so the Discount Coupon already exists ...

The goal is the customer comes to your site ... is logged in ... and then is where, when they are to "click" or do something with this Discount Coupon that is not able to just be used by making something like a sidebox or something that says:
Use Coupon Code: abc123 on checkout for your Discount ...
