Paypal Unconfirmed Address - Advice?

Hello,

We sell electronics (mobile phones, camera etc.) and accept payment by Paypal apart from our merchant account. In the UK, we only use Recorded mail but for International, we offer both Airmail and International Signed.

Now, we have received an International order and paid by Paypal but the buyer has unconfirmed address. In the Paypal transaction page, it says we are not covered by Seller Protection and so we have asked the buyer if they authorised the payment. The problem with this is that we have read about buyers receiving products but still putting up a claim/chargeback and Paypal is more likely to go in their favor (pretty much always).

Should we post the product? What else can we ask for to make sure the payment is authorised? Should we only offer International Signed for orders paid by Paypal?

Any advice please.

Thank you

Re: Paypal Unconfirmed Address - Advice?

If it was me, I would try to get email verification from the buyer that they indeed made the order and paid via PayPal and also only ship it via a trackable and signed for means. You can also have PayPal investigate the payment if you have reason to suspect it could be fraudulent. Note the funds will be frozen until the investigation is done. Obviously don't ship if you have them investigate.

Re: Paypal Unconfirmed Address - Advice?

Standard Airmail was chosen as the shipping method and this does not include tracking, tho we rarely lose any packages sent this way. Not really that we suspect it as fraudulent, just that from previous experience that we accepted a Paypal payment and then some time later, funds were put on hold due to apparently "unauthorised payment" and Paypal refunded the payment.

Should we just stop offering Standard Airmail as an option? International Signed For is kind of expensive and we're a bit hesitant in offering only that as it might put people off. Any advice from UK sellers?

Personally from the Horror stories I have heard and a few of my own experiences with PayPal:censored:, I would deactivate the Paypal payment system and only hold it i reserve in the off chance you need it for an interim period if something should go wrong with your regular processor.

Honestly? You should always use a traceable/signed for shipping method, otherwise you have no way to prove the merchandise was received ... without proof, you lose.
