My store Slow on Checkout

My site is having a performance problem but just on checkout. It varies but sometimes can take up to 2 minutes or more after clicking checkout to complete the process.. It's irrelevant which payment/shipping method is chosen.

Using v1.3.8 on a Windows server. Any suggestions?

And please.. kobra.. don't respond by saying "You cart should not be slow, something is wrong." because those types of responses help noone :)

What Payment Module(s) are you using?

What Shipping Module(s) are you using?

Is it "always" slow on checkout or just sometimes?

Is it slow on "each" page of the checkout or just the checkout_shipping? checkout_payment? checkout_confirmaton?

Is your Login slow? Example, from the Home Page ... click on Home ... click on Login ... is it slow?

If you click on My Account and any of the links in that area for your Account information ... is it slow?

If you are "already" logged in, then go to checkout ... Example: Go to Home Page ... Click Login ... go to any of the Category Listings ... Add something to the Cart ... go to Checkout ...

To rule out a shipping module, if you turn OFF UPS and USPS ... and test with just Flat Rate flat or Item Rate item is your checkout slow?

To rule out a payment module, if you turn OFF everything ... and test with Check/Money Order ... is your checkout slow?

ONLY on checkout_confirmaton after clicking the "Confirm The Order" button.

Ok, i tested it with just Check/Money order and it was still slow...

then I tested it with just Flat Rate and was still slow...

Would anything to do with SSL cause it to slow down?

After looking into it deeper, my guess is that the "slowness" is perhaps when processing the checkout_process page.

Since it happens only after clicking the "Confirm The Order" button and the action for that form is main_page=checkout_process than I think it's safe to assume that's where it slows down??

I looked at the code for that process and nothing has been modified as far as I can tell... but I don't know what each line of code does which prevents me from going any further...

For the heck of it, I tried switching the theme back to the default as I've seen suggested on other threads, but it didn't make a difference..

Also.. this is occurring on 2 zen stores on the same server...

Is it slow on the Check/Money Order or just on AuthorizeNet AIM or just on PayPal Express?

Under Order Total Modules I have:

COD Fee (not installed)
Discount Coupon (enabled)
Group Discount (enabled)
Gift Certificates (enabled)
Low Order Fee (enabled)
Shipping (enabled)
Sub-Total (enabled)
Tax (enabled)
Total (enabled)

I compared checkout_success with files that I downloaded from here and they were identical... nothing out of the ordinary that I see in the browser either...

I am not sure how much this plays into the speed but your Secure Certificate does not match for your site ...

As each secure page is asking me what to do, as I am not letting it run these pages without asking ... it is most likely hanging because of the incorrect secure certificate for the site ...

I'd try to fix that before going much further ...

Out of curiosity, did you get that on both links I sent you?

Yes ... the first has bad secure certificate and the second a lot of rewrites it appears when going non-secure to secure ... but I did not play with the second one as much ...

Best to fix one at a time ... :smile:

Right now, I would focus on the first site, where the secure certificate is not made for the site ...

The first site is just in a temp spot so the cert doesn't match up... the second site is because there are a few images that are insecure...

I did disable SSL on the first site but it was still slow

Try disabling it again on the first site so I can test this without the Secure Certificate playing into it ...

If I mouse over the links on the first site for My Account and Checkout etc. I do not see anything about the secure page ...

But ... if I click the links it is trying to go to the secure page ...

Must be rewrites or something on both sites as both have this same behavior where mousing over a link that should be secure displays non-secure URL but clicking it goes or tries to go secure ...

The second site has a problem with hard coded or incorrectly coded images that are showing that are not secure and throwing errors ...

FireFox and the Web Tools and FireBug are very handy for finding and fixing issues ...
