Blank Sidebox mod & iContact sign up form

I have successfully added a blank side box, so I know I'm putting the files in the correct place. Now I'm trying to add a blank sidebox, and have the javascript code to sign up for my my iContact newsletter.

I can use the "automatic" version code that iContact has. And it works, but it's too big for the side box.

When I put in the manual code, so I can change the color and size, it makes the whole column blank.

Any ideas why? I asked iContact support, and they said that the php interferes with the javascript statements that are in the manual code. So I'm not sure what to do. Any ideas?

As an FYI, I decided not to use iContact, and switched to mail chimp. I was able to paste their code into the blank side box and it worked.

**c) Sign up on https://www.icontact.com. Copy "we will offer affiliates a discounted price" from https://www.cj.com, send an email to icontact.com support. They will adjust the rate in your account to reflect 15% off. You can compare the price in your account with the "full pricing list". You'll see 15% off already applied. Then you can subscribe or upgrade to get triple 15% off. **
