remove front page text

Hi,

Here are the specs and link to my site.

zen cart 1.3.8
mac os10.6.2
Dreamweaver cs4
https://www.joezjewellery.com/store

Can't remove the following text after doing all the over ride system etc.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed your Zen Cart™ E-Commerce Solution.

When I look at the file index.php in my custom folder it has all the changes I made. I also made the changes in the original file and it still doesn't change. of course emptied cache etc. also.

here is what the source code for the site looks like:

<div class="centerColumn" id="indexCategories"> <h1 id="indexCategoriesHeading">Congratulations! You have successfully installed your Zen Cart™ E-Commerce Solution.</h1> <!-- deprecated - to use - uncomment <div id="" class="content">This is the main define statement for the page for english when no template defined file exists. It is located in: <strong>/includes/languages/english/index.php</strong></div> --> <!-- deprecated - to use - uncomment <div id="" class="content">Define your main Index page copy here.</div> -->

Thanks all for your terrific support.

Re: remove front page text

If this is showing, and you say you have edited the language file called index.php, then your override path is incorrect - or the file you edited is missing or corrupt.

The ORIGINAL is here:

includes/languages/english/index.php

YOUR edited version should reside here:
**
includes/languages/english/custom/index.php**

(the path should be EXACTLY as I describe).

Re: remove front page text

Thanks for your quick reply!

My path is as you describe.

If the file is corrupt how can I get a new one?

Also, in the I'm wondering what the code means by the comments "depricated"

The CORE (original) file is in:

includes/languages/english/index.php

... so, just FTP that to your hard drive, so you now have a COPY on your local computer... make the edits, and then FTP it to:

includes/languages/english/custom/index.php

(What program are you using to do the edits? You should ONLY USE a plain text editor... nothing else... You can download freeware editors such as notepad++ (not the same as plain notepad) or perhaps emerald editor. Search on Google for these...)

Re: remove front page text

Ok, I've deleted the files I had modified and redid the whole thing.

I was using Dreamweaver.
I redid everything in textedit - same results
I then tried Dashcode (I'm on Mac) - same results!

I can see the changes in my files but they are not being read!

And now I feel really really stupid.

The problem was again between the chair and the screen.

I had a typo in the folder name - custon instead of custom!:lamo:

Sorry for the trouble.

Re: remove front page text

No apology needed Suzanne...

I regard myself as an "advanced novice", and have some 6 years' ecperience with ZC ... and you know what?...

... a couple of months ago I had EXACTLY the same error as yours and for the life of me I could not see the wood for the trees! It took me a week to find out... One has a tendency to assume the worst... yet sometimes (most times perhaps) the solution is simple...
