Removing Star Rating in Product Reviews?

It's been asked before, the solution was generalised, but the guy who got it to work didn't bother sharing it with us.

I wish to use the Product reviews feature for general comments that do NOT require a star rating.

I can get rid of the stars and associated text, but a script (I guess it's Java) keeps demanding that I rate my own comments.

I could probably resolve this problem and many more if there was a schema available that told us what scripts were triggered when a certain action is taken. I'm just driving blind. I can see what the problem is, but can't work out where to go to fix it.

It looks like I may have to change a dozen files, but if I can find that pesky error script, all would be okay.

Can someone please help because I'm sure a lot of people would love to dispose of the rating system.
