Sideboxes in the middle column of a page?

Hello, all! I am enjoying setting up my first ZenCart.
I have a few questions unrelated to each other, so to keep each thread clear, I will post a few different threads.

I have:
Zen Cart 1.3.8a
Product Type: Book addon (by moku and hareslade)
A great deal of CSS and a few brute force modifications to layout (always through template additions, never messing with the original files).

In this thread, we explore the possibilities for putting sidebox content in the middle column...

I'm not using sideboxes for the most part. I have a Cart Summary sidebox, and that's it. I don't want to change this.

What I do need is a way to view all the authors of my products, since this is entirely a book shop.

What I have in mind is putting a couple sideboxes from Product -Book by moku and hareslade in the middle of a page, so it will show a dropdown list of all authors in the database, and then when you click an author's name, it shows the usual list of books they've done, and also the information I've entered about them (little profiles).

I hope I've articulated well enough what I am aiming for in order to get some help, and many thanks in advance to anyone who can offer some advice.

You can try using the sidebox code that generates the sidebox contents and inserting it into say the defines_main_page.php that us editable from the admin > tools > defines pages editor
