categories wont show on main page

the categories wont appear on the main index page, i have it ticked in layout settings to appear. i am using Theme 12541 but i changed the theme to the default theme and it still wont show. i have built 3 carts using zen so far and no problems... the only big differance with this one is that its on a windows server? please help.. this is so frustrating

There are two settings needed for the categories to show on the homepage. What is your setting for "Main Page - Opens With Category" ?

that is set at 0 because i want the top level categories to show only?

Yes, 0 should show all of the top cats on the home page. Do you want something else? Post a link to see your site.

It  is possible that your Template Monster template has disabled the category list display, though it is not the same hack we have seen a bunch of recently (search the forum for hsyong for more info and that fix - yours may be similar).
