What is happening?!

Okay, I am running Zencart v. 1.3.8a

I took screen shots of the classic template and then what happened when I followed directions in the FAQ and forums to do these things:

  1. Get rid of the logo completely https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=126 (worked beautifully)
  2. Change the header image https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=124 (worked too)
  3. Remove the 'Congrats you've successfully installed...' https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=129 (made the fonts go supersize)

I used the https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=142 as a guide to what folders I needed to make in the templates and several others to pick where I should be putting my 'custom' folders.

Now, why are the colors buggered if the only thing I changed in the stylesheet was the header background as stipulated in the article. And the only change I made in index.php (includes/languages/ENGLISH/CUSTOM/index.php) was to erase the Congratulations! You have successfully installed your Zen Cart™ E-Commerce Solution. from between the single quotation marks (also as directed in the article mentioned above)

What am I doing wrong?! I've been trolling boards and resetting my shop, to the point I uninstalled it and re-installed it but, I can't figure out why this font/color thing is happening.

Help, please, before I loose my mind.

Re: What is happening?!

A link to your site would help. Usualy having the fonts go too big means the stylesheet isn't loading properly, usually caused by errors in editing a file.

If you replace the english/index.php file with a fresh (unedited) copy, does the problem go away?

Re: What is happening?!

The site is at http://wzfelt.com/shop/. I thought I'd put the site in the first post... but i apparently have lost my mind many times over.

And yes, for some reason, if I restore the file to the original, the text goes back to normal size, but I have the Congratulations message again.

However, if I even just re-enter the congrats text, it stays supersized.

--- I've made all the appropriate 'folders' for the custom template, so when i'm editing the index.php file, it's saved and being used from english/wzfelt/index.php

Re: What is happening?!

The last lines of the index.php file should look exactly like this:

// This section deals with the "home" page at the top level with no options/products selected
/Replace this text with the headline you would like for your shop. For example: 'Welcome to My SHOP!'/
define('HEADING_TITLE', '');
} elseif ($category_depth == 'nested') {
// This section deals with displaying a subcategory
/Replace this line with the headline you would like for your shop. For example: 'Welcome to My SHOP!'/
define('HEADING_TITLE', '');
}
?>

Um, logic tells us that if replacing the file you edited with an unedited copy fixes the problem, then your edits have to be the problem. Frustrating as it is, I'd take another look at that file, or, better, delete it and start over.

Okay, maybe I should say this, replacing it with a file that is uneditted and has the original 'created' date of 2007 will fix it the font size. -- as can been seen when I replaced it with the original file (and got my Congratulations text back) http://wzfelt.com/shop/

It is still the index.php in the includes/languages/english/wzfelt/ folder. I restored it to the original by copying the one from the includes/languages/english/ folder. How can my removing that text cause the fonts to go wonky -- yes I get that it 'has to be my edits' but no matter what I put in there, if I edit it in any way, it changes the font size.... why?

And why are my colors all wacked? If I didn't change those anywhere, why would they change?

I can help with the colors. What you're seeing is the default template Lovely, eh?. When you create a custom template, if you want it to look like the 'classic' template, you need to copy the files from includes/templates/classic/css and includes/templates/classic/images into the corresponding folders in your custom template.

What are you using to edit the file? Some editors (like Frontpage or Word) can corrupt PHP files.

Microsoft Expression Web, it's also how I am ftp-ing the files up.

Re: What is happening?!

I haven't used that or heard anything about it, but it is a MS product, and they tend to use proprietary code/tags and perhaps sloppy coding.

Try downloading Notepad++ (free from https://www.sourceforge.net) and use that to edit files. Expression Web may be an ok FTP client, but if you still have problems after editing in Notepad++, try Filezilla (also from Sourceforge).

Well I got the colors fixed at least, but modifying that single file -- includes/languages/english/wzfelt/index.php -- to remove the 'Congrats' line (even in the manner indicated in the FAQ) results in the font supersizing... but for no reason I can determine. sighs

Thank you for the help with the colors!

Well, it looks like Microsoft was buggering the file somehow. I worked on it in Dreamweaver and uploaded it with SmartFTP and now... it works. I hate Microsoft.
