Paypal problems and white screen...

Hi

I have looked through some threads but I need some help please as This is my first Zen Cart on my site.

Once in checkout and if I click on the yellow Paypal button it comes as a white screen also going through checkout normally then selecting Paypal also goes to white screen.

I did have the standard Paypal and not the express on and that Paypal worked fine before I installed this express version tonight.

I have checked the settings and they appear correct in Paypal Ipn bit etc.

I do get these messages in my inbox though...

email 1:
IPN PROCESSING INITIATED.
*** Originating IP: xxxxxx (deleted as my Ip)
*** Browser/User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.4;
en-US; rv:1.9.1.7) Gecko/20091221 Firefox/3.5.7

email 2:
IPN FATAL ERROR :: No POST data available -- Most likely initiated by
browser and not PayPal.

*** The rest of this log report can most likely be ignored !! ***

email 3:
IPN FATAL ERROR :: Could not find stored session in DB, cannot re-create
session as PayPal IPN transaction.

email 4:
IPN FATAL ERROR :: No saved session data available to build order from IPN.
Cannot process this as an IPN-only transaction.

email 5:
IPN NOTICE :: ipn_application_top -> language files okay

email 6:
IPN FATAL ERROR::Could not establish fsockopen. Host Details =
MODULE_PAYMENT_PAYPAL_HANDLER:80

A test was then done with Fatcow and this was generated:
IPNCHECK.PHP - Version 1.3.9

IPN TESTING - Response Received via CURL -- COMMUNICATIONS OKAY

IPN TESTING - Confirmation/Validation response with fsockopen(): FSOCKOPEN() RESPONSE RECEIVED - Communications OKAY

Default method likely to be used for communications is: CURL, with the fallback method being FSOCKOPEN if possible.

Script finished.

I also added the Debug logging tool to try find problem...

Can anyone please help me?

There may be slight delay in response as I am in England Uk as for time difference to America Thank you

What's the URL in the browser address bar when that happens?

Re: Paypal problems and white screen...

A blank page appears when a fatal PHP error occurs. That can happen when you edit files (typically language/template files, but not isolated to those) and introduce PHP syntax errors. It can also happen when your FTP upload process fails to fully/completely upload all files when you're uploading them to the server. Sometimes that can result in partial files, or files with no content, or even missing files. It can also happen when installing poorly-written addons or installing them to the wrong folders or haphazzardly.

While the debug-logging-tool mentioned here: https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=82 will usually help identify PHP errors, sometimes the problem is a little more elusive, and that's usually when files are incomplete or empty on the server. Also, the logging can only happen when the folder for logging (ie the yoursite/cache/ folder in v1.3.x) is not writable by apache/php.

Re: Paypal problems and white screen...

Hello

Thanks for replying again...

I've read what you just typed but is there any way to try find out what it is or do I just have to stick with the standard Paypal and not install express? As the Standard version works on my site.

Thank you

I was implying that you may have damaged PHP files on your server, and you need to audit them all to fix whatever is broken.
http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Troubleshoot_-_Diagnosing_Obscure_Issues
I was also implying that maybe you're not seeing debug logs because the server can't write them due to permission problems.
And I was also implying that maybe you have other addons installed that might be conflicting.

I can't give you a definitive "do this to fix it" instruction because I can't replicate the problem you're describing. We would never have released the software if it was doing that to us when we wrote it and tested it.
Thus, I'm giving you suggestions on things you can do to diagnose and fix the problem yourself, by directing you to common causes of odd behavior.

Re: Paypal problems and white screen...

Hi

I have checked my PHP files (I use Cyberduck on my mac) and I can not see any files with 0 file size.

I am now downloading my entire sites file to use that compare tool, thank you for the link I did not know about that.

The only add ons I have are the Royal Mail Big one and The time zone offset one which did not work when downloaded as my time is still -5GMT hours in my cart (I did put the -5 GMT into the option box) but that never caused any problems with the other Paypal, I will see if I can find link in forum/help files on how to uninstall that...

Other than that I do not have any add ons and I have only changed things in files like the UK weights to Kgs and £ instead of $

I do understand you would not have released the software if that was happening
