Can't make the telephone optional using Paypal (IPN)

Hello
This is my first intervention in this forum

I don't want my users to be forced to add their telephone number in their account. I've found the way in this forum to modify Zen Cart files to do so, but then Paypal is forcing my clients to write their telephones, no matter what I do.

I've installed Zen Cart (1.3.7, the version that my Hosting provider installes automatically) with Paypal IPN modules and the Paypal patches indicated here.

My Paypal settings are configured to not to ask the customers telephone, but then the field is there, and is not even optional. If a user leaves it in blank, he gets this message

Some required information is missing or incomplete. Please correct your entries and try again.
* Home Telephone: The phone number is not properly formatted.
* Home Telephone: The telephone number is too short.

I don't want to force my clients to enter the phone number, since I know I will probably loose many. Has anyone found this problem before or knows its nature? Looks as if something goes wrong somewhere in the call ZC makes to Paypal.

Please help :(

Thank you
Àlex

Re: Can't make the telephone optional using Paypal (IPN)

If the customers are being told to enter their phone number WHILE ON THE PAYPAL SITE, you'll have to sort that out with PayPal: https://www.paypal.com/mts
Zen Cart has no control over how PayPal asks the customer for telephone number details.

Re: Can't make the telephone optional using Paypal (IPN)

 Of course, sorry, I somehow imagined it had something to do with the call that Zen Cart makes to Paypal. It's obvious that I should have asked them first, because I was wrong. For the record, here is the answer they have given to me is this:

The option to deactivate the telefon field in the paypal form is valid if the client buys using Paypal, but not if the client buys through Paypal using a normal credit card (VISA, Master Card, etc). In that case, the telefon is always there and users have to fill it, it's not optional. They say it's for security reasons.

Son no way to make telephone number optional if you pretend to allow Paypal IPN with no Paypal account required (normal credit cards). If you make it optional in Zen Cart, they will force your client to write it down in the Paypal form.
:-(

Thanks anyway
Alex
