MySql and ez-pages

So I'm embedding a php include in an ez-page and it's interfering with ZenCart's ability to process the rest of the page after my dynamic information is shown. I tweaked the code found on the forum allows php includes to be put in ez-pages but I'm not sure what to do to stop the MySQL from interfering.

I hope this is making any sense but I changed the included file's mysql calls to mysql_pconnect rather than _connect and it fixed the problem. Not sure why but it was a guess.
