Adding or changing to a new a template

Hello everyone.

I have what's probably a simple question. I've searched the forums for the answer but there's sooooo much information on here it can make it difficult to weed through it all to find an answer!

So ... I apologize if this has already been asked:

If I install a new template (I have the Darkness one in mind) will it completely wipe out all the changes I've made to my existing "Classic" template?

Thanks so much!

Re: Adding or changing to a new a template

No not is installed correctly

It will add a folder "darkbess to your /includes/templates folder with it's associated files

From the admin > tools > template selection you should now see it as an option

Don't know what changes or how you have made them but if correctly they are only attached to the classic template

You can copy the files and apply to the new template

Re: Adding or changing to a new a template

Great - I was worried I would lose all my work. Granted I haven't really done a whole lot. My main concern would be losing the products & product information I loaded in. That won't be affected though right?

Thanks!!!

That is correct as that info is in the Database and not in files

You will only have to replicate files that you have edited/added

Re: Adding or changing to a new a template

Thanks, again :-)

My boyfriend is uploading/installing the new template & I think he may be making it more complicated than necessary. Do you need to follow all the instructions in the template files? We're trying to install one from Zencarts templates ...

Don't worry, I promise I'll stop asking questions soon!

Re: Adding or changing to a new a template

I am a newbie to Zencart, I read the threads about adding a new template. I am at a lost on how to do this. I went to 12leaves.com and downloaded a template but I have no success.
Can I get some assistance with this task? Please. :(

Re: Adding or changing to a new a template

Unzip the template file you downloaded, and using your FTP program, drag and drop the 'includes' folder inside the template package to the root (top directory) of your cart.

Then select the new template in Admin - Tools - Template Selection. (If it isn't there, you dragged the folder to the wrong place.) Then click on 'Reset' in Admin - Tools - Layout Boxes Controller.

Or you can upload template zip package to the root Zen Cart folder with FTP client and unpack/extract it via your Cpanel of your hosting provider. And then select the new template in Admin -> Tools -> Template Selection.

You can find this info on every free template pages on 12leaves.com, for example:
http://www.12leaves.com/shop/html/liteorange-zen-cart-template-p29789.html

Also you can get an additional assistants by contacting with them.

Hmmm...I just installed a new template, TruBlu, and after adjusting text in page-editor everything works fine. However, the customer does not get any options when they checkout regarding if they want to pick up at store or if it should be posted. All moduls works fine, and all the settings is just as before (doublechecked) but still it will not produce the options when checking out. Suggestions, anyone?

Very powerful forum this is! I only have to post my question, then the problem fixes itself! My problem was not a problem, it just took some patience from my side. After about 5 minutes after I posted my problem, the webshop works fine with everything! Maybe the database had to think for a while? :P
Anyway, it´s good to be a member on this forum, there is an enormous databank with knowledge right here! It feels good to have you around med. :smartalec:
