Image confusion

Hi everyone, i am still having issues with the images. I have followed the How to image preparation and have the following directory structures which is mirrored in the domain. BroomeBeads>images>CzechGlassSeedTn>BlueTurquoise.jpg
BroomeBeads>images>medium>CzechGlassSeedMed>BlueTurquoise_MED.jpg
BroomeBeads>images>large>CzechGlassSeedLrg>BlueTurquoise_LRG.jpg

In the images folder there was already a folder called large and medium .. so rather than have my 150 or so images mixed up with the generic ones .. i put them in their own folder within the large folder. I will have many images in their various sizes say another 2,000 images that are not seed beads but some other sort, ie images that relate to silver beads, alphabet beads, etc. If I throw the whole lot in large, it will be very messy but is this what i must do? to get zen cart to read the appropriate _LRG. IE no subfolders? I noticed that in the large folder there are generic subfolders, one called microsoft and one named DVD .. so I figured there must be a way?

Also when uploading the images in the back end ... If i use browse
for the image and select the image from my BroomeBeads>images>CzechGlassSeedTn>BlueTurquoise.jpg and then choose from the upload to directory drop down box and select CzechGlassSeedTn - I get no image available. If I choose main directory i get the thumbnail but then on the server it will place it straight into the images folder and my medium and larger image display as thumbnail size. I guess your going to tell me that I have to have all 2000 images sitting in the images folder and all 2000 copies of the medium _MED sitting directly in the medium folder.

I read the following article and got even more confused as they mention that if you have images in the appropriate folders on your local computer and server .. that you do not have to even upload them from the back end .. is this true?

"For your medium and large pictures, whose size you can set in the Administration dialogs, you can repeat the same process, but instead of uploading the pictures using the Zen Cart administration interface you simply FTP them to their directories making sure to add an extension at the end that will tell Zen Cart that the pictures belong to a certain product but they are a different size. Zen Cart will know to display them in the appropriate pages."

my site in progress is http://www.broomebeads.com.au

Thanks everyone!

Re: Image confusion

Just as stated:

Place/upload the small image via your zencart admin

FTP the additional med and lrg images to the /medium and /large folders in the images directory

Re: Image confusion

BroomeBeads>images>CzechGlassSeedTn>BlueTurquoise.jpg
BroomeBeads>images>medium>CzechGlassSeedMed>BlueTurquoise_MED.jpg
BroomeBeads>images>large>CzechGlassSeedLrg>BlueTurquoise_LRG.jpg

You have different subfolder names in each size subfolder... try using the same product type foldername:

BroomeBeads>images>CzechGlassSeedTn>BlueTurquoise.jpg
BroomeBeads>images>medium>CzechGlassSeedTn>BlueTurquoise_MED.jpg
BroomeBeads>images>large>CzechGlassSeedTn>BlueTurquoise_LRG.jpg

The image code doesn't know where to look if you use a different subfolder name for each size.

KoBra:

Place/upload the small image via your zencart admin

FTP the additional med and lrg images to the /medium and /large folders in the images directory
Try one set of 3 images for one item and do what is known to work

medium and large are already subfolders

Re: Image confusion

Why not just install Image Handler 2, and then all you need is ONE image in the main image folder.

This should be about (350px X 500px) to (500px X 750px) in dimensional size.

It should be between 95kb and 125kb in file size.

Image handler will use this image to create cached thumbnails, medium and large images - AND it optimizes the quality of the image on-the-fly as well.

So you have top-quality images at ALL sizes in your store, and they are optimized for fast-loading.

There are some nice hover-zoom features, AND a full image management console within the shop admin panel.

Re: Image confusion

Hi everyone .. seem to be getting nowhere with regards to my images.
Have followed all directions re LRG MED but as soon as I put these images in a subfolder within lrg and med .. i run into problems. A few kind people have referred me to image handler which i will use in the future but i have already done the hard work and resized into LRG etc

The following is my set up:

images>CzechGlassSeed>1160BlueTurquoise.jpg
images>medium>CzechGlassSeed>1160BlueTurquoise_MED.jpg
images>large>CzechGlassSeed>1160BlueTurquoise_LRG.jpg

ONLY if i do NOT put into subfolders does the process work. As there will be 100's of images in different categories, putting images straight into the images directory folders will be very messy and I know that zencart will read subfolders because it already has some by default.

Hope someone can help me here .. thanks in advance

Re: Image confusion

The following is my set up:

images>CzechGlassSeed>1160BlueTurquoise.jpg
images>medium>CzechGlassSeed>1160BlueTurquoise_MED.jpg
images>large>CzechGlassSeed>1160BlueTurquoise_LRG.jpg

When I go to your site and right click on the image & check the image properties this is where the image is

/images/1160BlueTurquoise94.jpg

If what you say above is correct then why do I get a 404 error when trying
http ://www.broomebeads.com.au/images/CzechGlassSeed/1160BlueTurquoise.jpg

But do see an image here

http ://www.broomebeads.com.au/images/1160BlueTurquoise94.jpg

If you removed them put them back BUT make sure that you edit your product to select the image from
/images/CzechGlassSeed/1160BlueTurquoise.jpg

Re: Image confusion

I was trying to get the image to display using the subfolders but could not get it to work so on that one image i used the upload to main directory. I will remove it and you will see there are no images.

Re: Image confusion

Of course there will be no images if you just remove it. What happens if you select CzechGlassSeed as the image directory when setting/uploading the base image?

Re: Image confusion

Is it now uploaded to that subfolder through the product page? Is the image file actually in the subfolder?

I still get a 404 when navigatiing directly to where you have stated you have the image

http ://www.broomebeads.com.au/images/CzechGlassSeed/1160BlueTurquoise.jpg

Check you spelling, what has actually been created and the path to it

Re: Image confusion

Quadruple check that in your admin that the image for this product is listed as being in the sub-folder

Toward the bottom of the product entry screen next to the image name box is or should be

Image Name: images/CzechGlassSeed/1160BlueTurquoise.jpg

On your site it is still listed as being at /images/ and being that you have removed it from there you get the no pic thing

If you do not see that you have not properly told ZenCart where the base image exists

Re: Image confusion

remember that where you upload your images to, and where you tell the database of that location - must be the SAME PLACE.

If (in the database), the image's location is indicated as being the root folder for images (which is images), and yet you have physically uploaded the image (via FTP) to a different location - perhaps a sub-folder...

... then you will probably get a blank space, and/or the alt tag, where the image should be rendering.

It's purely a question of making sure that the image's reference in the database is matched up with the physical path to the image...

(It's really not complicated...)
