Need to add a random selection in a category to the home page

Hi, I would like to have a specific category listed on my home page, just as "Specials" or "Featured" products. I am already using those on my home page, I would like the category to show at the bottom of the center column. Here is my website: https://www.cartamagicastore.com.

I have played in my template files, as you probably can see, but I know almost nothing about php. So if you have a solution for me, I would need details, if possible :)

First part really easy - open the cat and note te address in the browser it will be like

/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_4

Then in admin > config > layout settings > Main Page - Opens with Category > enter the cat as 1_4 or what ever your cat path is

Moving to below will require a file edit and so we steer you correctly we need a link to your site and the page you are trying to adjust

And I want to add the "Combo" category, found in the top menu. I added the number 312 in my config, as you instructed me.

Try switching to the classic template and see what displays

It did not show up anywhere...

Check other layout settings

Categories - Always Show on Main Page set to "1"
Main Page - Opens with Category this you have as 312

I did that, and now I have only that category showing on the main page. So I truned it off again.

What I would like to get is the same display as the featured products for my category. Could I instert code in my index template, as suggested in this post :http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=126791

I don't mind using Defined Pages, I can do that easy. I just don't know how to use php to call the file...
