Product Description Gets cut off

I am using Zen Cart Version 1.3.8

I was tweaking it a couple of days ago then realized when I put text into the Product description in admin/category that when I hit the "update" button it cuts off a lot of my text.

Since then I have completely removed Zen Cart and re-installed a fresh version, however this too is doing the same thing.

I have tried going to admin/configuration/product listing to change the display product description to a higher number- this did nothing.

I have changed the Product_description in phpmyadmin - from text to medium text and long text- these didn't do anything.

I can however put the description into phpmyadmin with no problems and it doesn't cut it off.

I have searched this site for days to see if there was a solution to this problem and I couldn't find one- so if this has been covered I would ask that you kindly send me a link to that post.

I have even contacted my host to completely delete everything in my account- and still nothing.

Also I am also seeing that my tile_back.gif is showing up and I haven't done anything to this program yet. This is a fresh install as of 30 minutes ago- fresh database, and completely fresh zen install- I have not changed any of the settings.

So any help would be greatly appreciated.

It appears you're using some kind of WYSIWYG editor to copy and paste into the product description. This isn't a good idea, as many such editors add extra code, special characters (in this case, whatever the character is before and after "use at own risk'), etc. which won't work well with Zencart. Use the built-in editor in the product description area instead, and I think your problem will go away.

I'm a little confused by your last paragraph - tile_back.gif is the background image fo sidebox and centerbox headers in a stock, unmodified Zencart installation.

I thank you for the help however when doing it in admin/catalog when writing in text I get 2 Lines(out of several lines that actually make it to the finial description page). I do put in all of the detail I want in admin/catalog but after I hit the "update" button it doesn't save it all to the database. I get more lines when using Dreamweaver to produce code, but Zen cart still cuts off the text.

Again like I said I can do it all in phpmyadmin and I can change the code writer for that no biggy to keep from the " & " in a strange text.

My ultimate question is- can I fix this problem with Zen cart so I do not have to go to phpmyadmin to insert a product description? I will go to phpmyadmin to enter a description as that is the only way it is letting me get more than 2 lines or written in text, or 15 lines (using dreamweaver) to copy and paste.

The tile_back.gif is showing in my firefox (just checked)- I had cleared my cookies and it is still showing. It doesn't show in IE. I have added a picture showing you in Firefox what I see.

I have tried this in both firefox and IE admin and the same thing happens every time.

In Chrome I get an alert- "Mozilla < 1.3 beta is not supported! I'll try, though, it might not work". Still get 2 lines in Chrome as well.

I typically use Firefox to do all of this- so if that makes a difference.

I have had Zen Cart before and have never had this issue come up before- I could typically have the description as long as I wanted with out a problem. The last time I worked with Zen was a couple of years ago and it was on a different host.

You shouldn't have to enter product descriptions directly into the db. I still think you're entering some sort of special character just in front of and after the phrase 'use at own risk'. That's what I'm seeing here, anyway, both in the source code and on the page in all browsers. That's also the point at which your description stopped when you entered it in admin.

Looks like this in the source: œuse at ones own risk”

and on the page: “use at ones own risk”

I'm seeing the stock green tile_back.gif in all browsers.

So I took out the " and ", and replaced it with ' and ', and it seems to have worked I guess it didn't like the first quotations.

Now I feel dumb LOL :blush:
