How do I override template?

I am using Zen Cart template theme 228. I want to change the shipping address window to include a phone number for the person something is being shipped to. I can find where I could override the template to include this information. I would be ever so grateful if anybody can help me with this. I'm getting very frustrated.:wacko:

It's not a template thing.

There's some discussion here, but I don't know if they got it to work.
