WHY? is IE browser Background Color different than firefox

I'm having a little dispute with the owner of my test web site. He claims that the main page background color on his browser IE8 is different than the main page background of Firefox. The backgorund color orf the main page and of the right sideboxes is white.
Then can ANYBODY explain why his is the same color as the left column category sidebox. I can't seem to get anybody else to replicate this problem.
The owner will not go live until this problem is rectified.

Well, we could start out by telling you a dozen or so things it MIGHT cold be, just by guessing. But, you need to talk you client into going live so we can give you precise advice, and not just a bunch of guesses. After all, his presence on the web won't even be know for a while, anyway.
