Is zen-cart the right choice?

Hello,

Here is the scenario we are facing:

We run a business out of 2 locations.
We have a customer front end where the customer walks in or calls in and places an order. It takes us a couple days to process and make the order according to the customer. During this process we are unaware of the 'status' of the order.
We would like a web system where we can submit an order online to our factory location, they start on it, and update it once its 'complete' or 'out for 'delivery'.

At this point if the customer calls or walks into our front end location, and says whats the status of my order i can simply pull up the site. and check the status and the factory side would have updated it to "out for delivery" for example.

Is this possible with zen cart? any other suggestions?

Thanks

Re: Is zen-cart the right choice?

just to add to this.... we will not be using zencart to sell stuff, we just want an order tracking app between the two buildings (but dont mind if its online on the www).

secondly we will not be taking any payments thru zencart either.

Re: Is zen-cart the right choice?

I suppose it is possible, but it's akin to putting a Rolls Royce engine into a Morris Minor...

I am sure there must be OpenSource Apps that could do this for you more simply... Look on Sourceforge...

If you find nothing, come back and let's see what others have to say.

Re: Is zen-cart the right choice?

Technically, zencart does facilitate for the update of the status of an order, so yes... it can be done.

In fact, you can "custom configure" the status feature to reflect a number of "stages" of the order processing activity.

As Zencart is so simple to install (takes about half an hour), why not try it out?

There will be no cost incolved (other than a hosting account) but if you have a website, ZC can be installed in a sub-directory.

You would need to "hide" the site from the public, which is also possible...
