Couple questions after upgrading from 1.2 to 1.3.8

I was going to wait for 2.0 but my host just upgraded to MySQL 5.0 and I think it may have broke my outdated version. I'm not sure what else it could have been. I'll need to completely redo my template, but that's ok. :) Anyway, It went surprisingly well but there are a couple things I can't figure out.

1: My categories on the left are not capitalized even though they are in the Categories / Products area of the admin section.

2: The search bar says HEADER_SEARCH_DEFAULT_TEXT and isn't calling the language text file properly. Any ideas?

Assuming that you upgraded correctly displaying a constant is usually caused by a mis-edit to the lang file that has that text that is supposed to display
