When each page is produced the URL changes (/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=5) or (/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1) can you edit these pages individually.

The reason I am asking is when I click on categories if theirs a sub category it opens a new page with the sub categories as icons, but as a list I won’t them to be across the page.

I also have a random problem when clicking on a category the new page opens with only the left column in the middle of the page before righting it self, it only happens randomly and only for a second im un able to reproduce it.

Im using the standard green template.

These "pages" are created "ON THE FLY" by the php, and only exist while in the browser screen.

As soon as the visitor navigates away from them, they "evaporate" forever, and a new page is assembled by the php.

There are no "HTML" pages in zencart - they do not exist. Pages are constructed by the php, depending on what the viewer has called up.

Structural and layout edits are performed by editing the css, activating/deactivating components in the Admin Console, and (in a few cases) by editing the php itself.

There are no "pages" as such... all "pages" are assembled by the php and exist only for the time they are rendered in a browser screen.

This is a CSS effect, caused by #navColumnOne and/or #navColumnOneWrapper having a margin: auto; property. This is an instruction to center itself in the space available, and for a brief moment while loading, there is no center column yet and the entire window is available.
It annoyed me when I was first building my site, and I deleted it. This may or may not be safe for you to do, depending on your design.

How do I change this from list to a row it shows the sub categories normally with an icon.

Difficult to see from that screenshot exactly what you're wanting from my small laptop screen, but perhaps try the column_layout_grid_v_1_3_8 mod here - http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=77

Hard to tell from a screenshot, but you may have eliminated a float: left; that normally makes this list and lots of others line up in rows.
It won't be related to Column Grid, as that is for the product listing.

it’s a right pain as I can find how to change the new products below from 3 columns across the page to 1 left, right, or centre by changing line 562 (/misc/.back { float: left; }) in stylesheets.css

but can find nothing to reference the area above new products heading.
I have attached a screen grab but don’t know why it shrinks on uploading.
I clicked the image then zoomed in on the browser to make it clearer.

You don't want to change the plain .back {} rule, as that is used all over the code and you will be affecting things you never suspected, and find yourself wondering how to fix some random display problem somewhere else entirely.
Do something like
#productListing .back {float: right;}
to limit the effect to the product listing content.
