Shipping problem with weight

Hello,
I am running version 1.3.8 and have free shipping enabled which I use for some products. Free shipping works fine.

Here is my problem. When a "non-free shipping" item is added to the cart along with a "free shipping" item, the weight of the free shipping item is added to the overall weight which results in the customer being charged for ALL weight.

I need to keep the wieghts of the free shipping items intact since my customers often use express shipping which charges regular fees based on what express choice they make. If I set the weights to "0", my express fees will be way off.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

What shipping module(s) are you using?

On your Free Shipping with weight product ...

1 why does it have weight?

2 how is it marked as Free Shipping?

So far, even with a 1lb Product marked as Always Free Shipping and adding another Product for 1lb to the cart I am getting 1lb of weight for shipping and my shipping modules are all working ... so I cannot reproduce this issue ...
