Adding attributes on product listing

I've installed Column Layout Grid for Product Listing, in what I expected to be the last meeting for this client they've suddenly decided they want to use attributes for a lot of the items AND they want the user to be able to choose those attributes from the product listing page. Any ideas how I would do this?
