Splitting main content homepage into 2 columns?

Hi,

I have my editable main content page, were i edit it in the "Define Pages Editor" But is what i want to do is split that in to 2 columns one on the left and one on the right. How would I go about doing this?

Thanks
Sam :smile:

You can divide your content into two divs, each with a unique id (like #defineMainLeft and #defineMainRight).
Then add to your stylesheet```
#defineMainLeft {
float: left;
width: 49%;
}

#defineMainRight {
float: left;
width: 49%;
}

Sorry to be stupid, but what files would i edit?

Thanks
Sam

This is all in define_main_page.php, where you entered the content.
Style rules go in stylesheet.css.

I have found the 'define_main_page.php' file but i can not find the 'stylesheet.css' file. Could you give me the location of this file?

Thanks
Sam

includes/templates/classic/css - save the edited version to your override folder.

I have now found both files and edited the style sheet with the code you gave me, but in the 'define_main_page.php' file I'm not sure were/how to add the tags?

OK, this is the most fundamental type of HTML structure. Add a <div id="defineMainLeft"> before the first half of the define_main_page content and </div> after it; then <div id="defineMainRight"> before the second half of the define_main_page content and </div> at the end.

If you are using the HTMLArea editor, you will need to switch to plaintext view to do this.

That has not worked :( Here is my code:

There is no need for you to link to the stylesheet; that is an automatic part of Zen Cart.

How do you mean "not worked"? Does it give an error, or just not change anything? You have the new tags in the right places, but there is so much junk tag soup from the editor that it is extremely difficult to tell what might be wrong.
I do see that you have an unbalanced </div> tag which is cutting off the new div prematurely; that needs to be eliminated.```html

<div id="defineMainLeft"> <font class="Apple-style-span" face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-size: xx-large; " class="Apple-style-span"><b><font class="Apple-style-span" color="#0033FF"><br /></font></b></span></font></div><div style="text-align: center; "> ```</div><div style="text-align: center; "> Delete the red tag.

Thank you for all that really great help, but there is still a small issue: i have attached an image of what it looks like?? :sAttachment #7203

I have now got this far (see attachment) but now it has repeated a background all over it. How would i go about removing this background? Then it will be just what i wanted??

Thank You
Sam :smile: Attachment #7204

We can't answer that without seeing the site live.
You probably want a few more <br /> in your code, to get things on separate lines as originally laid out. These should be obvious.

I am about to go away for two weeks, and will not be online, so I invite anybody else to jump in and help out here.

Thank you so much for all you help last night, it has got be quite far, but making my site live with those errors is not reallly poosbile because people use the site all the time. Is it better if i upload the style sheet and the main page file to here, or is that not good?? :smile:

Thanks
Sam
