favicon IE8 problem

Hi all!
Many people have had problems with this, it seems a bit hit and miss if you can get it to work but I'm wondering if anyone has come across this problem before and knows of a fix.....

If I look at my site in either the secure or insecure area in FireFox, I see my favicon. No problem.
In IE8, I can see my icon in the unsecure area but not in the secure area.

I have my icon uploaded to my server in the root of httpdocs and in the root of httpsdocs.
I've tried it with no link code in the head of my web page and with the following code enabled:

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />

I've tried the path to favicon.ico as shown above, as '/favicon.ico' and as './favicon.ico' but the result is always the same.

Here's the weird part, I bookmarked my login page as it's in the secure area and when I look at my favouries, the favicon shows in the favourites list. If I click the favourite, the page shows with no favicon :censored:

It's driving me mad! I've cleared my cache loads of times and refreshed but nothing.

Anybody spot what I'm doing wrong or is it just another great IE "feature" :dontgetit

It's a Microswift feature.

Put the code back to original, as Zen Cart already takes care of what it needs to do for linking to the proper icon (assuming you've called it favicon.ico and put it in the root of your website).

Then bookmark the page. Do it in both secure and non-secure URLs if you're particularly interested in that.
Usually that's enough for MS/IE to display the favicon image. At least, until you clear your cache again ... then you'll have to re-bookmark it again.
It's also important to note that https pages are often not cached by browsers, which means if you're not seeing the favicon when bookmarking https pages, it's likely for that reason.
You're certainly welcome to log a feature improvement request to microswift ... maybe they'll listen to you more than they did to me?
