Installer says MySQL not supported - I disagree

I'm trying to install ZC on a server running Ensim 4, php 5.16 MySQL 5.0.27

I know that MySQL is working, because I've created the database and can access it via phpmyadmin.

So why would the Zen installer give me a "Database not supported" error?

Note: I am able to edit php.ini for the site.

Re: Installer says MySQL not supported - I disagree

If your PHP configuration reports that the "mysql_connect()" function doesn't exist, then the Zen Cart installer will tell you that MySQL is not supported, since Zen Cart requires the use of the mysql_connect() function.

Re: Installer says MySQL not supported - I disagree

The mysql version on the sever had been upgraded to something too new for the php version on our site. The host fixed it by upgrading php.
