Is there a way to grab ONLY the customer data?

After failing miserably to upgrade from Zen Cart 1.3.7.1 which has broken code, I started with a clean install with Zen Cart 1.3.8a.

I had thought I could just copy the info for the few dozen active customers I had until I realized I do not know their passwords. Admin FAIL.

Is there some way I can go into the older database and grab the customer accounts and add them to the new database? Please be specific and gentle as I am a pHp neophyte and will have to follow the directions word for word in order to manage the fix. (As in first go here ___ and do x--- to y---...)

Thanks so much for your kind response.

Re: Is there a way to grab ONLY the customer data?

You will need access to phpMyAdmin to do this. phpMyAdmin comes as standard with most hosting packages. So, firstly, login to your hosts server panel, and look for a link to your database. If you have a cPanel based host, you'll see something like :2083 in the URL, and phpMyAdmin is found in teh Databases section, half way down the first page.

Once you've found this page, you need to select your database. On the panel to the right, you will see a few tabs along the top. Select EXPORT.

You will now see a list of tables to the left. You need to select the following:

address_book
customers
customers_info

On the right, select DATA ONLY - Complete Inserts.

Don't worry about the structure, as you are putting the data straight into a new database table. You MUST have COMPLETE INSERTS so as to avoid any problems with the import.

NOTE**** Tables may have a prefix attached to their names, such as ZEN_.

Click export to generate the SQL statement.

Now copy this to a file on your desktop.

Now open up phpMyAdmin, for the new store.

Check the three tables listed above are empty. THIS WILL REMOVE ALL CURRENT CUSTOMERS.

Check the database table names match the previous site tables.

Run the SQL statement you just copied from the old database, by pasting it into the SQL tab on the right.

That should be it.

You may also want to consider doing a similar operation for Countries, Zones, Geo_zones, Zones_to_geo_zones etc. depending on how much data you have in your old store.

Thank you so much! I will try this a soon as the host fixes a glitch in my phpAdmin panel. I can't access it because of a server side issue. :/

If the tables names don't match what should I do?

Then you have to rename them in the SQL statement. You'll find INSERT INTO xxxx_customers...... and you'll need to rename the xxx_customers bit to match the new site table names.

If they are on the same phpMyAdmin login, you may be able to perform an operation to copy the content directly from one database table across to the other database table. You will need to check the setup of your phpMyAdmin. If both sites are on the same hosting account this is probably the best option.
