UK & International Confusion

Been trying to get my head around the shipping module for atleast 4 hours now. Been searching here and on the zen cart wiki but I am still unclear how I achieve this.

So far I have installed UK counties (by coffee granules), which has given me a list of counties inside the UK zone. I believe this part to be correct.

Now, my confusion arrives when specifying postage prices in modules > shipping.

  • My UK prices are different depending on mainland, scottish highlands and offshore etc. This is why I installed the counties.
  • My prices are also different for international, depending on country.

I want to be able to specify what each is charged at depending on weight. I can only assume I want to use the 'zone rates' module. However this only lets me specify country ISO codes and I also need to define my UK counties. How do I do this?

I just want to program something along the lines:

IF GOING TO...
UK - COUNTIES [list all mainland] then charge [x]
UK - COUNTIES [list all highlands] charge [z]
UK - COUNTIES [offshore] charge..
CA,US charge...
ZAPAN, HONG KONG then charge..

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: UK & International Confusion

I have set up a number of shops for UK postal rates - both RoyalMail and ParcelForce.

And I agree, it is a detailed process.

To do it, I used the ZONETABLES addon module, from which I then created FOUR CLONES. (You may need more if you also use the UK postal service to deliver internationally.

There are three options open to you:

  1. You do what I did and use the zonetables module (cloned a number of times) and set it up yourself:
    http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&cPath=40_51&products_id=695

  2. You use Big Royal Mail by Phil Clarke:
    http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=294

  3. You go to https://www.ceon.net and speak to Conor Kerr about his Advanced Shipping module (this is a commercial offering, but will handle just about any shipping config you can think of.)

Re: UK & International Confusion

This is a great module (zonetables). Thanks for the recommendation. I believe this is going to work, I think this should be included in the standard install really.

By clone do you mean copy the php file numerous times for the different zones?

I've installed it once and it has 2 zones/tables which is what I have setup so far in the zone definition area.

Re: UK & International Confusion

creating my zones at the moment. word of warning to anybody reading this whos thinking on using uk counties, DO NOT USE THE MODULE BY COFFEE GRANULES. Im a 3rd of the way up the UK and they've allready missed Glamorgan, Cardiganshire, Breknockshire and Huntingdonshire.

Use Chris Bookers module

Many shipping modules lend themselves to cloning. This is when you make a copy of the module in order to apply its functionality to another shipping system/structure.

Read Fairestcape's tutorial on how to clone a FLAT RATE module. The technique also applies to ZONETABLES:

Re: UK & International Confusion

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE for zonetables module...

It is vital that you set up your zones and zone definitions BEFORE you install these modules (and any clones).

After the modules are installed, if you then ADD or SUBTRACT any zones, you will get a php error. The modules will also then not work properly.

This is because the module does a COUNT of the number of zones you have set up - getting this value from a count of the listing in the database.
