Confused about bug fixes

I have recently installed v1.3.8a and looked at the list of security patches and bug fixes.

My question is, are all the fixes listed for 1.3.8 also applicable for 1.3.8a or do I simply do the ones that specifically say 1.3.8a? There are 5 pages worth of bug fixes to go through.

How do I know how many of the 1.3.8 bugs were fixed by the 1.3.8a release?

You can tell by date. Any bug fixes notified after the original release date of 1.3.8a (which is most, if not all of them) will need to be applied, if they are relevant to you (many won't be).
