My products won't display in correct order

I cannot get my products to display in new products in the order I want them to I have set the order at the bottom of the product setup page but it makes no difference it still displays by product id (which was the order I added them I have put them into the sort order I want when I look at the categories/products they are listed in the correct sort order, However when I look at my actual page (new Products) they are listed by ID. I would have thought if the sort order was filled in for each product that would be the order they would be displayed on the page or I am I missing something?

If you switch back to CLASSIC template, what happens?

I tried switching back same problem.it's not a cache problem I have opened it on another pc and I still get the same problem

What value do you have in Configuration->Layout Settings->Categories/Products Display Sort Order? The value 0 (zero) seems to do the trick for me.

Try also Configuration->Product Listing->Display Product Listing Default Sort Order. Leave this blank to use the products' defined sort order.

There are separate settings for each of the Listings and for the Product Info page ...

I went through your list all were set to the correct setting exept one (featured listing chagned that to 8 reset page cleared cache but no difference even tried on different pc still no go. Starting to think I should remove all products and reinstall them in order I want. However if I do that I might as well look at changing products because I would have no confidence in zencart. Because if a simple thing like a sort order can't be changed how do I know it will process an order correctly?

Maybe if you had an URL we could peek at and list a category or two of products_id and products_sort_order we could spot what is wrong ...

Could you list some of the products_id and products_sort_order that you are using?

I am seeing on the page you posted the New Product Centerbox which is displayed in RANDOM order ...

Do you have your Products in Categories?

If I look at /index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1 ... are those in your Sort Order that you set?

Hi Ajeh yes that is the order I set. Are you saying that the new product centre box can't be set in a particular order ? It would seem to me that if that is the case then I will haveto renter my products as the order that is in is not really random it is the ID order that in entered them in.

You have to customize the code for the New Products CENTERBOX as it is purposely meant to display randomly ...

NOTE: you can use a built in Feature of Zen Cart to display your Products on your home page in products_sort_order ...

Go to Configuration ... Layout Settings ...

Set to 1 for ON:

Always Show Categories on Main Page
0= off
1= on
Default category can be set to Top Level or a Specific Top Level

Set to 1 for the categories_id your Products all appear to be in:

Main Page - Opens with Category
0= Top Level Categories
Or enter the Category ID#
Note: Sub Categories can also be used Example: 3_10

Thank you thank you thank you this piece of information is extreamly helpful is there a book written on setting up zencart from go to woe with all these little snippets of information in? I have the manual that zencart recommend and to be quite honest it is not that good neither is zencart for beginners. And although these forums are great I find looking for answers in the tutorials very frustrating ( put in what I am searching for and I get answers for things that aren'tI related) and I try to do this before I post a question.
