Document - General in product listing

I've been searching for some time, and this seems to be a subject that has been raised quite a few times, but never with a solution!

I have set up two categories, limited them to the product type Document - General, one for holding Articles and the other for News items. So far so good. I have added a couple of articles and news items, and although the 'lising' layout isn't ideal (eg I don't need images, price columns etc) it looks ok.

BUT - now the articles and news items show up in the 'New Products' listing and in the New Products sidebox, which is just silly, as they're not proper products......:-)

Also, although I don't have the links to the two cateogories in my categories side box (they are in the Documents sidebox), the category links show in the category links on the main page (at the bottom)- here: http://www.diy-wedding-favours.co.uk/store/

In an ideal world I would also like to have the listing look less like a product listing for the documents - http://www.diy-wedding-favours.co.uk/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=334

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this, or an alternative way of adding Articles and News without using the Documents. I found the News & Article Manager addon, but it hasn't been updated for some time so I'm worried about using it....

Thank you

I've always thought EZ pages made the most sense for non-cart content, and would solve all your problems.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it gets very messy when you have a lot of pages and don't want to show all the links in the sidebox.....

Re: Document - General in product listing

You have the option of showing the links in the sidebox or not. Same with the header and footer.
