Easy Populate which version?

Hello,

I've read up a little about easy populate and thought I would like to give it a try on my test site.

However, when reading about the mod people are saying not use the latest mod cause older versions are more stable.

Then you go to the downloads section and it lists:

Easy Populate 1.2.5.5 with Stock With Attributes
Easy Populate CSV
Easy Populate Free - from langer / modhole
Easy Populate langer 1.2.5.5 for Group Price Per Item 1.3.2

None of these are the more stable older versions.

I would like to use the Stock with Attributes add on but don't know if it would be compatible with an older version of Easy Populate.

The whole thing is confusing!

I'm using 1.3.8a Zen Cart.
Would like to use the best mod that can work with the Stock By Attributes mod.

Suggestions for outcome please?

Also please name exact mod and Location of the mod if NOT on the list above.

1.2.5.4 is probably the most stable version.

EP does not handle, or influence attributes (unless you are going to use the Commercial Version - and even then, attribute handling is clunky)

I doubt whether EP Commercial Version will help you. As I said, the attribute management feature of that version is very cumbersome.

You are probably better off using zencart's inherent attribute COPY features.

If you need help with the commercial version let me know. I have installed the commercial version and it will work fine with attributes, few to many.

I have installed the 1.2.5.7 version and it does attributes but overall seems un-reliable for just straight uploades. However using this version I have had 19,000 products uploaded in 1 batch and filled a store with 77,000 from 5 files. Then easy populate became problematic, blank screens, no responses. Which did not seem to effect live site though.

Now I am going to remove 1.2.5.7 and install 1.2.5.4 which the forums state is most reliable. But with 1.2.5.4 read the wiki at: http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Easy_Populate. And the download is not on the addon software page rather in the archived downloads found here: http://www.zen-cart.com/archived_contributions/admin-tools/

I may have to resort to the commercial version for this site.

The Commercial Version DOES support attributes... but it is cumbersome...

A lot of people (evidenced by the post from wcironsales) do manage to use EP 3 successfully for attribute management, so there is evidence that it does work.

I have EP 3 on a couple of sites. One of these has over 800 option name/value relationships, applying across several hundred products. Trying to manage these in EP 3 is a real challenge, however.

I used it for the first time yesterday (1.2.5.4), and maybe i am being a bit dense, but what's to stop you adding your own attributes?

Version 3 is a commercially available version with significantly more features and functions. It is not supported on this forum because it is a commercial offering.

No-one is certain where the original author is (Langer), but I do recall reading a post of his some years ago where he mentioned he had health issues. Some time after that we stopped seeing posts, so either he has had to curtail his activities, or has sadly gone to better places.

The FREE version which is arguably the most stable, is 1.2.5.4.

I am thinking about adding Easy Populate, but for a very simple reason. I just want to be able to export all my products and their inventory levels to excel. I am hoping to also export the stock by attribute page as well. At this time I am not interested in importing products. Should I add Easy Populate for this function. If so, which version do you suggest?

Easy Populate (conventional versions) is not configured to handle Stock By Attributes, because the latter writes a new table to the database.
