adding product to store so only admin can see it?

is there a way to add a product in zen cart, but not make it available for sale, but rather hidden, so only admin can see it? or only be seen if given the direct url to its page?
or can i do such a task with an entire category?

You can click on the green status box in Admin - Catalog on products or categories to turn it to red which turns the product/category off. A direct URL won't display the product/category if the status is red.
