I have a relatively new site and would like to manually change what items are in the BestSellers list, essentially I want to add a few. is it possible to do this?

The bestsellers list is created from real orders stored in the database. If you are concerned about "changing" the list then you will need to create some test orders using products you want to see in your list. This will of course give your sales reports a false picture.
For a brand new site without much sales history it is best to turn the bestsellers box off until you have accumulated some real sales.
