Restrict Products based on Country

Hi!

I need to restrict some products on the same product category based on some countries. That is, customers in countries A, B and C are not allowed to buy the products in the category. However, the same customers are allowed to buy products in another category. Is there a way to achieve this in Zencart?

Any advise is appreciated.

How many countries and categories are involved with this?

There are a number of ways to address the issue but knowing more details helps in determining a simple method or a more complicated method to manage this ...

Do customers have to log in before they can add to the shopping cart or can they add to the cart as a guest?

Basically I am trying to determine if the test for what is in the cart and the country can be done "before" the product is added to the cart or has to be checked after the customer logs in ...

actually customers can add to cart even though they haven't log in yet, they can add to cart as guests. so that check has to be done when the customer logs in or creates an account.

How do you want this handled?

Do you just want a warning on the shopping cart or an attempt to checkout?

Do you want the Products, once the customer logs in, to not be allowed to be added to the cart if you are one of the 3 countries? Or is the 3 country restriction meaning only people from these countries can buy ... so are the 3 countries NOT allowed to buy these products? or are the 3 countries the ONLY countries that can buy these products?

And the big question is ...

Are the restrictions based on:

Customer Address?

Billing Address?

Shipping Address?

people from these 3 countries are not allowed to buy the products in the category. If they login and they are from these 3 countries, the "add to cart" functionality for the products in the category should be disabled.

As for the address, as long as any of the address has these 3 countries, they are not allowed to buy the products in the category. But they are allowed to buy products from another category.

So if the UK was one of the 3 countries not allowed to buy any Product from master_categories_id 33 where categories_id 33 is the Category with these Restricted Products ... and Grandma lived in the UK ...

Grandma CANNOT buy this for herself to send to her UK address ...

Grandma CAN buy this for Tiny Tim and send it to his US address ... (the US being an "allowed" country) ...

I'm in Australia and I'm not permitted to ship aerosols out of the country, I'll like to be able to stop overseas buyers from adding them to their carts, I'd like them to be able to add everything else though.

There are a few ways to do this ...

Show on Product _info only shipping to Australia ...

Show in Listings only shipping to Australia ...

Check on the shopping_cart and tell them only shipping to Australia ...

Check on checkout_shipping that shipping address is Australia or tell them to either change address or remove products from the cart ...

This does require some customization to make this happen but it can be done ...

Is there something in the products table that identifies these products that can only ship to Australia ... such as the master_categories_id or some sort of identifier? :unsure:

I too would like to know how to do this, but i'm not good at coding myself, however i can follow instructions easily...

I would like to do mine based on counties, as we will offer a service such as personal training, but this for the time being will only be available to customers in the South East of England and London - obviously other customers will still be able to buy products sold.

Is this relatively easy to setup? It can either be done by category or product, althogh there will be multiple PT sessions, such as block of 3/5/10 sessions which each having more discount...

I am going to need exactly the same functionality here.

It does not matter where the purchaser is registered, the delivery address is the key. Again it's aerosols and the restrictions we have.

Has there been any movement on this??

We had a similar issue, and got round it by using attributes. It's a bit "clunky", but it worked.

We set up an attribute OPTION NAME (dropdown) called " Delivery Restrictions ".

I can't remember the client we did this for, so I have set up a similar effect on another DEMO site of mine
