Only offer certain attributes if another attribute is selected first

we have a lot of products with attributes to choose if they would like it engraved or not, for example the first product in 'glass decanters' My question is; I would like it so that customers can only type in the 'engraving text' field and select a font from the 'font' dropdown, if they have selected 'yes please' from the 'add a brass plaque' menu.

By default 'no thanks' is selected from this menu so id like the font field and engraving text field to be grayed out or hidden untill they decide they would like an engraving. In other words, I only want attributes that are relevant to attribute choices made to be displayed. Is this possible?

It's only a small issue but would tidy things up and also save confusion because as it stands even if the customer has selected they dont want an engraving, they are still able to select a font and type engraving text which will display in the checkout and even though they havnt paid the extra £8.95 we could miss this and give them the engraving anyway! Mistakes do get made, especially if we have tons of orders!

That's called 'dependent attributes' and Zencart doesn't support it, nor is there a mod for it.

ah ha, I knew there was a special term for it. Thanks. Ok well we may get our computer guy to write a mod as I think it would be a really useful one and definitely something that's been over looked.

If your computer guy can write a dependent attributes mod for Zencart that will work generally, and not just for your application, I would suggest that he gear up and sell it (for a reasonable price, of course). There's a lot of demand here for that feature.

Yep, Indeed, I searched dependant attributes and there is indeed quite a demand! :)

i seen a commercial mod for it , but right now , i don't remember who was offering that mod :(
