Search for Products based on Weight Range

Is there a way to search for products based on weight instead of price...? in the advanced search fields, you may find products by price range... just wondering is there is a possibility of browsing by weight range...

Do you use Attributes?

Do your Attributes use weight?

If not, you could trace how the Price search is managed and clone it to manage a weight search ...

It would take a bit of work, but it could be done ...

Why would you want to search on the products_weight field?

thanks for the reply, actually I thought the same, but could not understand the logic of the price range, since it uses a Pfrom and a pto to determine it, but have not found how this is defined.

I do not use attibutes, this is only for the product itself.

I need this because I am trying to develop a module that will check current cart weight, and display to the customer all of the extra products that could be added for the same shipping price (since table rate is used).... it is the same for a customer to buy 4.1 lbs of product or 4.9lbs when it comes to shipping charges...

Unfortunately, without sitting down and writing all of the code that would be involved in this it is difficult to post how to write the search to adapt itself for searching based on weight ...

You have the right idea ... but you would need to customize all of the code so that it can search the weight in the same manner that the price is searched for ...

well, I have tried with no sucess..

In case there is someone interested, I have placed my requirement on the commercial help wanted section... in case someone wants to make a couple of bucks!
