Can not edit define pages editor main_page error

Hi
for some reason i am unable to edit my define_main_page.php from the admin panel - Regardless of using the fck editor plain text or even the html editor it just doesnt work -

When i click on save it takes me to a forbiddon page that reads

You don't have permission to access /xxxxxx/define_pages_editor.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Everything would work great before

any idea

Re: Can not edit define pages editor main_page error

I get the same error only on the define_main_page.php page, I can edit and save all of the rest. the url that the server can't find is:

http:// the_domain.com/tribeca/admin/define_pages_editor.php?lngdir=english&filename=define_main_page.php&action=save

I've tried rwxrwxrwx and rw-rw-rw- (i.e. 777 and 666)

BTW the web host is dn-ph24.directnic.com (for ftp) and
Parallels H-Sphere for http

Re: Can not edit define pages editor main_page error

I solved this problem by editing the file offline and reuploading it. I'm using the Cold-Steel template, btw.

Re: Can not edit define pages editor main_page error

I tried changing my permissions around also with no help. I don't know how to edit a .php file. Wondering why I can edit everything else but the main page? Anyone else have a clue as what to do?

Thanks

Re: Can not edit define pages editor main_page error

Do you have a set of override files for your html_includes files located at

includes/languages/english/html_includes/cold_steel/

When you manually editd the file - What path did you save it to?

Re: Can not edit define pages editor main_page error

Hi Kobra - still got the same issue - not too sure why - its very strange actually - I am also able to edit the file offline and then save but not through the define pages editor.

ive checked file permissions and all looks well - i even changed it to 777 and still no luck.

Yes i am using the override system - its for zainabscollection - the file is located at

includes>languages>english>html_includes>MYTEMPLATE

Not to sure why this is happening- i dont mind making the changes offline but feel that there may be some sort of security issues - I must say that i am a little relieved that im not the only one experiencing this issue -

Your help is appreciated

many thanks

Re: Can not edit define pages editor main_page error

I'm having the same problem. It came out of nowhere (I haven't changed any permissions or anything else that would make a difference). When I try to save changes made to my Main page, using the define pages editor, I get the following error:

"Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /admin/define_pages_editor.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Apache/2.2.15 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.15 OpenSSL/0.9.8n DAV/2 mod_fcgid/2.3.5 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at..."

What's going one here and how might I begin to troubleshoot?
Thanks

Is that just a place holder to not post the name of your template?
As this would not be correct as I posted where these should reside...

Re: Can not edit define pages editor main_page error

Okay- Now seriously- there is some sort of a problem here. Now when I try to edit my categories images or text, I'm getting the same error:

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /<my custom admin name>/categories.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Apache/2.2.15 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.15 OpenSSL/0.9.8n DAV/2 mod_fcgid/2.3.5 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at https://www.speedcreed.com Port 80

I know that others are having trouble too. Any help here? Anyone?

It seems that I've been accused of *hi-jacking *this thread (which was never my intention) so I'll humbly decline to interact further and will just sit back and watch. Hopefully- someone more helpful than the 'Snake' persona will choose to be kind enough to assist us.

No one can assist if you do not provide information requested

What are the folder permissions?
So what are the folder permissions for this folder?

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /<my custom admin name>/categories.php on this server.
and triple check them on the file "categories.php"

Re: Can not edit define pages editor main_page error

Here's what ended up solving the problem for me (so maybe it can for you too).

I contacted my hosting service and explained to them the error that I was getting. Before the end of the day I got the following response:

"It appears that your domain may be hitting some of our recently updated mod_security rules. We can whitelist these, but first we will need to be able to reproduce the error."

And that ended up taking care of it. So if you're reading this thread, you may want to check with your hosting service first. (Mine is awesome, by the way. I wish I'd thought to contact them in the first place - could have saved myself some grief).
