Upgrade from 1.3.7 to 1.3.9b and can't change admin values

I've just upgraded a client's cart from 1.3.7 to 1.3.9 and the configuration > website maintenance > Down for Maintenance (On or Off) doesn't work. I'd change this value directly in the database if possible - but I can't figure out what table it's in. I assumed it was in the 'configuration' or 'configuration_group' table - but none of the options I tried did anything.

The bigger problem is that the admin doesn't work - I can't change the values. But for now - getting the value set to 'false' would be great.

Any help appreciated.

Those are classic symptoms of incorrectly updating (or not updating) the /admin/includes/functions/html_output.php file, and maybe also some of its dependencies.

Re: Upgrade from 1.3.7 to 1.3.9b and can't change admin values

Hi, I have performed a clean install of 1.3.9b and am getting the same issue, being changes made in the admin tool are not being saved. This is a "vanilla" install and the only change I made was to apply the Security Fix (renaming the admin directory).

Can you add items to your shopping cart?
What version of PHP? MySQL?

Re: Upgrade from 1.3.7 to 1.3.9b and can't change admin values

I cannot make any changes from the Admin console at all, keeps taking me back to the main menu area. I cannot add Products manually. I haven't tried to upload any products direct into the database as yet.

PHP is 5.2.12, MySQL 5.0.45
I have another store up and running on the same hosting server, different domain name using 1.3.9a and it works OK.

The shopfront seems to be OK though as I am able to create a new user account and login in.

Have reviewed the admin directory files, comparing them to the original 1.3.9b install files and cannot find anything obvious. Next step was going to be to install again and test before applying the security fix (although if theres a better way :smile:).

Thanks in advance.

What exactly are you referring to by "Security Fix"?

Re: Upgrade from 1.3.7 to 1.3.9b and can't change admin values

It is an article in the Zen-Cart tutorials for Renaming the Admin folder to prevent unauthorised access. Its a three step process to edit the /admin/includes/configure.php file to change the name of the "admin" directory, then rename the admin folder to the new name and then to test.

I previously applied this to another zen-cart store that had been installed using 1.3.9a and am having no problems with this site.

I am just about to reinstall the problem site and check if it works after the base installation. Will let you know.

Re: Upgrade from 1.3.7 to 1.3.9b and can't change admin values

Hi again,
I have performed the reinstall from a fresh download of 1.3.9b and have the same issue in the admin console.
Could it be something to do with the SSL certificate?

What happens if you clear your browser's cache and cookies?
What happens if you turn off SSL in your admin configure.php file?

Have tried clearing the cache and also using different browsers (IE, Firefox and Chrome). Also turned off SSL for the Admin section and then for both. Same problem persists.

Re: Upgrade from 1.3.7 to 1.3.9b and can't change admin values

Ok, still having problems with this. Have completely removed Zen-Cart and cleared the database. Downloaded 1.3.9d and uploaded to new directory on host. Went through "vanilla" install process and everything appeared to go OK.
Was able to visit the Store and also to get to the Admin section, however, still cannot save any changes in the Admin side. Tried to create new Admin and it goes through the motions and when you click on Save, it drops you back to the opening Admin Menu. This happens in any Admin screen, eg: My Store Settings, make a change to a setting and click save and you are sent back to the opening admin screen.
The site has been running in the past and has a current SSL certificate. I have also tried running Zen-Cart with SSL set to No, same issue.

Thanks, Roland.

Re: Upgrade from 1.3.7 to 1.3.9b and can't change admin values

from the database, is there a very big difference from 1.3.7 to 1.3.9? We are thinking, instead of upgrading one of our installs, we will just install from scratch, then just migrate the products, orders and customers.

Re: Upgrade from 1.3.7 to 1.3.9b and can't change admin values

:smile: Thanks to a post by 'Stressedout72' in April 2009, the fix to this issue seems to be to edit the two config.php files and change the define HTTP lines to all have https: for the URL;

  • If you desire your entire admin to be SSL-protected, make sure you use a "https:" URL for all 4 of the following:
    */
    define('HTTP_SERVER', 'https://shop.storename.com');
    define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://shop.storename.com');
    define('HTTP_CATALOG_SERVER', 'https://shop.storename.com');
    define('HTTPS_CATALOG_SERVER', 'https://shop.storename.com');

I did this and can now update settings and create a new admin user, etc without getting dumpmed back to the main Admin screen.

So in summary, this is totally related to the SLL certificate and how your hosting provider applies it. My provider changed their infrastructure recently and I have had this problem since then.

regards, Roland
